Meet the Assessors

Steve Wood

Steve Wood has extensive experience in the locating industry having purchased his first locating equipment from the USA in 1984. As part of his Electrical Contracting business Steve primarily focused on fault locating underground power cables, which soon developed into general buried asset locating.  In 2000 Steve started the business Fault Finders which later became Gippslocate. This business was totally focused on underground asset locating. Steve then joined NULCA in 2005 and spent a number of years on the committee including one year as Vice President.

In 2015 Steve sold the locating business and was soon asked to become an assessor for DBYD Certification Ltd. Steve completed his Certificate 4 in Training and assessing and now conducts training for two Registered Training Organisations and is an assessor for the Certified Locator Program.

Chris Scott Aiton

Chris is a DBYD Certified Locator with a raft of experience now domiciled in New Zealand. Over the last eight years, Chris has held roles with ‘Locaters Pty Ltd’ as a Locator, Surveyor and Utility Survey Manager. This has seen him working on some of the largest infrastructure projects throughout New South Wales. His last project prior to moving to NZ being the four-year Sydney light rail project. Although more than work has brought Chris to NZ, his focus is on promoting specialist consultancy services to the design and construction industry.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Building Surveying from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh and qualifications in construction technology and management. He comes to us with a broad range of skills and depth of experience in subsurface utility surveying, damage prevention, project management, training, H&S management and much more.
